Elizabeth Taylor |
Whenever I hear the word vintage my mind
naturally flashes back to the glamorous days of sultry Hollywood stars such as
Audrey Hepburn, Dorothy Dandridge, Marilyn Monroe, Ava Gardner and Elizabeth
Taylor. But my biggest inspiration comes from a woman who I truly love; my aunt
Bernadine Wilkinson who was the epitome of vintage fashion. I recently lost my
dearest aunt to kidney failure and part of my dealing with this pain is
by creating this blog which features a lot of my aunt's vintage fashion
sense. She was born in 1936 and died in 2015. Needless to say that she lived in
the height of the vintage era and during her life course, yes even down to her
failing health, she always had a piece of vintage style with her. Thanks to her
influence, I tie my head like a vintage pin up/ housewife using her beautiful
head scarfs; I wear lots of full skirts and cardigans while creating my own
vintage preppy chic style and I advocate that the wearing of vintage is not
just for “old folks” it is timeless and can still turn heads even today; once
done the right way of course.
However, what really appeals to me is the
alluring fashion sense of that era: flawless powdery faces, ruby red lips,
rouge cheekbones, slender fitting swing dresses, charming full-flaired skirts,
high waist trousers, plaid shirts, kitten heels, head wraps, wide brimmed and
cloche hats, and of course the glitz and glamour of diamonds and pearls. Without
the risk of looking time-warped or frumpy; my blog will show you exactly how to
pull off this look. This neo-vintage style can be worn at the office; work
functions; church meetings; parties or even at the shopping mall! Stick with me
and I will show you how.
